Slowly Marking

With each inhale of smoke
The Chain, as they called her
Would project her life in front of her
Every single misstep that led her to putting her feelings in a cigarette
Rainy days with sunglasses on
So no one would notice the sadness in her eyes
The death of the tobacco seeping into her throat
Filling her body with toxic smoke
Slowly killing her
But she would just stare up
Her hair under her beat up cap
Only the left out blonde strands flowing in the wind
Contemplating her life with every puff
Burning her skin to put out the flame
Marking herself with each problem that she faced
Lighting another one to keep her content
Sealing her casket with another coffin nail
